Erebus Motorsport has confirmed they have found one lap pace, after a standout performance on the streets of Townsville today.

Reynolds was quickest of the Holden’s in the morning’s qualifying, and fourth fastest across the line to secure a place in the Top Ten Shootout.

The #9 driver pushed his car to the absolute limits to go one better and slot into third for the afternoon’s race, and secure his best start of the season.

Reynolds got the jump, finding his way through the middle and taking the lead momentarily before slotting into second.

He was looking quick, but unfortunately not as quick as those around him, and fell down to eighth before his first stop.

Reynold raced on for the remaining laps, making the most of his race package, but unfortunately fell out of the top ten.

With no pressure from behind, he comfortably sat in 11th until the end of lap 70.

Dale Wood was unable get the most out of his qualifying lap, and was set to start his race from 22nd on the grid.

It was another flying start, and the #99 driver made his way up to 16th by the first corner, and kept moving. He was able to fight his way to 12th before his first stop at the end of lap 13.

A huge battle unfolded in the mid-pack and unfortunately for Wood, the others got the better of him and he dropped to P21.

Wood stopped for a second time and emerged in front of Fabian Coulthard. He fended off the former Championship leader before eventually passing the flag 22nd.

The team now have just over two weeks to prepare for the Ipswich SuperSprint, July 28 – 30.

David Reynolds – #9 Erebus Penrite Racing
“I started off really well and qualified fourth for the shootout, and ended up third after that. I put a really good lap together, and the best lap I’d done all weekend so that was cool I was able to do that.

“Started third for the race and got to second by the first corner; then by about lap four or five I knew I was in for a very long race. The car just wasn’t working to my liking and it was pretty hard on the tyres. I ended up 11th so it was an average result, but overall, I’m still happy with the weekend. We have definitely made steps forward in qualifying, are understanding the general balance of our car, and learning so much about the new tyre.”

Dale Wood – #99 Erebus GB Galvanizing Racing
“I had a disappointing qualifying, it’s something I haven’t been able to get my head around with the new tyre. There were lots of positive signs this weekend and times where it could have been pretty good.

“Today we just didn’t get it together well in qualifying, but then had a really good opening lap of the race. I got right up in the mix and it was really good. I thought that was going to set us up for a good race but it didn’t eventuate. For the first few laps I thought we were strong and for a good one but sank like a stone after that. I got caught up in some gnarly battles and was just on the wrong side of those. I wasn’t able to attack the way I would have liked to. It was a tough day after dropping the spots we made early on, so we’ll press the reset button and Queensland Raceway here we come!”
