Erebus Motorsport has claimed third in an extraordianry finale in Newcastle today, and cemented fifth in the Teams Championship.
David Reynolds crossed the line first of the teams two Holden’s, with Dale Wood 21st.
Reynolds also catapulted his way into 7th in the Drivers Championship, another best for the Melbourne-based squad.
Reynolds pumped out a quick time in qualifying earlier this morning, to score provisional third and a spot in the Top 10 Shootout. A final time of 1:10.6766, just 0.16-seconds off pole saw him hold onto that spot for the final race.
Reynolds took the effective race lead on lap 15, undercutting Van Gisbergen and McLaughlin during the first pit stop sequence.
The battle was on and with pressure from behind, the #9 Holden the rear roll-bar failed on lap 25. Reynolds never slowed down but in an effort to make the most of his Commodore, he locked his tyres at Turn 1 before dropping back to second.
Pit stops eventually settled the field, Reynolds coming out in third and pumping out the new race lap record to continue onto the podium.
Unfortunately for Wood, who said goodbye to Erebus and full-time racing today, he struggled to find grip around the slippery street circuit and was set to start his final race P23.
The #99 driver pitted as early as lap one, but a Pit Lane Penalty for entering the lane too quickly saw him return shortly after and drop back to the rear of field.
The GB Galvanizing Holden raced hard for the remaining laps but was unable to get back in the race and end his year on a high.
This season has seen the team’s determination and persistence pay off, and can’t wait to go better again.
Thank you to all our partners and supporters for being apart of our journey in 2017, and making it all possible!

“I’m very happy with the whole year, it was full of ups and downs and it’s been a massive rollercoaster but we have had a win, had some podiums, qualified really well for most of it. We’ve banded together as a team, built an amazing car, and been surrounded by an amazing group of people. You think this category is all about the numbers, but it’s all about the people that put those numbers together and I can’t do it without them. Its a magical thing!”
Dale Wood – #99 Erebus GB Galvanizing Racing
“It was a shame in qualifying today that I didn’t get the tyre working, it was a lot hotter and we couldn’t get it working in those conditions. The car had plenty of potential in the race, obviously I made a mistake early on and got a penalty so that really hurt us. To get one so early in the race makes it pretty difficult to recover because we went a lap down.
“I had some mixed emotions about today, but the world isn’t coming to an end. I’ve had a great few years and been really lucky to be able to do what I’ve done. It’s a shame to not to have gone out with the results we would have liked but it was a great to take a fourth at Bathurst, that’s definitely been the highlight this year. I’m sure I’ll be around in some form next year but for now, I’d like to thank people that have all made it possible and supported me throughout my time in this category.”
