David Reynolds has finished seventh in his Erebus Penrite Racing Commodore, and his teammate Anton De Pasquale in 18that tonight’s inaugural Sydney SuperNight 300.
Eighth-on-the-grid David was slow off the start but managed to steal a spot back before the end of the opening lap. On a mission to redeem himself, David was on the move and slid down the inside of Michael Caruso and up to 10thbefore lap three.
With tyres wearing around the Sydney circuit, Dave pitted for his first stop as early as lap 13. In dim-light conditions, Dave hits the marks perfectly, setting him and the team up for the fastest pit stops of the race.
Running the second Erebus Penrite Racing entry for as long as possible, Anton stopped on lap 19, making up two spots to 16thafter the first round of stops. David managed sixth, but with tyres fading and those behind on fresher sets, he later dropped to eighth.
The second round of stops were carried out on aps 35 and 41 and with the longer fuel stops complete it wasn’t until lap 56 when the third round began. Anton pitted just one lap later as the Safety Car was called with Todd Hazelwood’s rear wing sitting on the front straight.
The race resumed for a 16-lap sprint to the finish and with plenty of aggression in the field, Anton became part of a busy midfield battle. The #99 driver passed Michael Caruso around the outside at turns 6 and 7 but tangled wheels, sending the #23 into the dirt and Anton into pit lane. The rookie returned to the field after his unscheduled stop in 18th, where he remained right up until the checkered flag.
Reynolds trailed Rick Kelly and managed to get up inside him in the final moments but was unable to make the move stick and finished the 77-lapper in seventh.
DAVID REYNOLDS: Started 8th, Finished 7th
“I got a really bad start again tonight, I need to look at whats going on, because something isn’t working for me. I dropped a lot of spots off the line so I was on the backburner straight away, trying to defend and move forward. I passed a couple of cars but didn’t make much headway to the leaders but I knew were were going to have good strategy and good fuel time and we ended up the fastest in pit lane which was a really great effort from our team. I’m really looking forward to the next one and I think we’ve learnt enough to move forward after this weekend.”
ANTON DE PASQUALE: Started 18th, Finished 18th
“We were trucking along well and managed a couple really good stints in the first part. I had really good race pace and started to make a heap of spots at the end but we had some contact, got a flat tyre and then we had to return to the pits. Unfortunately, it didn’t end well for either of us but I was lucky to be able to re-join the field, even though taking another stop.”
