Erebus Motorsport’s Will Brown has claimed his third top five result of the season on the streets of Townsville today.
Will got away well after securing a place in his Shootout and inside the top ten on the grid. He made up one spot from P7, though it was his teammate who exceptionally quick to react and jumped three spots from P16.
Will was hanging onto P6 nicely though a mistake at Turn 3 on lap 15 saw him lose out to the two DJR Fords after an exciting exchange between the #9 and Anton De Pasquale. Will got the spot back off Will Davison, as Tim Slade also followed the red and white Holden through.
Brodie entered the lane at the end of lap 23 for new boots and fuel while Will pressured Cameron Waters right up until the pair pit on lap 29. The #9 got a little bit more juice as it pulled out of the box behind Waters.
At the end of the first round of stops Brodie was making ground in his Boost Commodore from P!5, while Will was safe inside the top ten. He passed Jake Kostecki on lap 34 for eighth before he went down the inside of the last corner to take P7 that same lap.
With one more round of stops to go, both drivers delivered smooth fast laps and managed the tyres right until they pit one last time. Brodie stopped at the end of lap 54, and it was a quick turnaround before Will entered the box two laps later.
Will was all over the back of Todd Hazelwood as they reached 20 laps to go, and the young gun got by at Turn 13 for sixth, before he eyed off Waters.
Lapping a tenth faster than him in the first and last sectors, Will closed the gap to Waters while the buffer to Hazelwood behind extended out to over 5-seconds.
Will was mighty through the final corner complex and got the move done on Waters with two laps remaining. The Erebus Pedders Racing Commodore came home in fifth at the end of 88-laps, while Brodie drove hard to manage P15.
The team now remain in North Queensland as they prepare for next weekend’s WD-40 Townsville SuperSprint.
