While yesterday saw Erebus Academy’s Toyota 86 drivers qualify at opposite ends of the grid, each of them managed to make gains and progress through the field in today’s race.
Jobe Stewart, Bailey Sweeny, Harry Gray and Holly Espray headed out after lunch for a six lap stint. Starting within the top ten were drivers Jobe and Bailey, who qualified P5 and P7 respectively, while Harry and Holly started in P14 and P27.
At lights out, Holly immediately gained four positions after a difficult qualifying session saw her starting from the back of the field. Meanwhile, Bailey gained an extra position right off the start line, sitting behind Jobe who had moved down to P6.
The first of two safety cars was deployed on lap one, with Harry and Holly both narrowly missing the two separate incidents. The race resumed on lap three and Bailey quickly moved up to P4 before another safety car was deployed shortly after.
The penultimate lap saw Jobe right on Bailey’s tail, who managed to hold him off until the final corner where Jobe was able to slide past, crossing the line one spot ahead of Bailey in P4. Meanwhile, Harry and Holly continued to climb through the field, finishing the race in P11 and P18 respectively.
Race 2 kicks off tomorrow at 1:30PM local time.
