Perth-local Brodie Kostecki has scored Boost Mobile Racing powered by Erebus’ best result in the opening race at Wanneroo, taking 8th at the checkered flag ahead of teammate Will Brown.
It was the first time since 2019 that the Supercars Championship had been in the Western state and the first time around for both Erebus drivers.
Starting from the second row, Kostecki got away quickly and jumped the car next door, though on the wrong side of the track was caught on the outside at turn one and slotted into 4th.
Just behind him Brown, who started from P10, also got away well and raced cleanly through the opening laps until the pit stop cycles commenced.
Brown entered the pit lane at the end of lap 13 and the crew were quick to react for two rear tyres. A delay on the left rear though saw the Boost Mobile-backed Holden slow to re-join.
Unfortunately it was a similar scenario for Kostecki, who entered the lane on lap 28 from second on the road.
When the field was cleared, Brodie sat 8th and Will 17th, which is where they crossed the finish line at the end of lap 46.
The team will regroup tonight and come out stronger for tomorrow’s two races, with qualifying kicking off at 9:20am local time.
