Erebus Academy’s Jobe Stewart has recorded his highest result of the season as he tackled Oran Park in the 2022 Eseries finale.
Having qualified P12, Jobe was the beneficiary of the opening lap carnage that saw a number of front runners off track and with significant damage, resulting in a six position gain for the #33 driver.
Choosing to pit a bit later than the rest of the field, Jobe took his compulsory stop for fresh tyres on lap 12 and was running P7 by lap 14 with one car left to pit.
Without any significant damage, Jobe put together fast, clean laps for the remainder of the race, continuing to run P7 until the checkered flag was waved.
Jobe Stewart said: “It was a pretty good night, my qualifying wasn’t too bad in 12th. It’s kind of in the middle so I knew I could race from there, I got pretty lucky on that first lap from all of the crashes and worked my way up to P6 and made sure I drove it carefully home. After qualifying 12th, I didn’t expect to get as high as I did since Oran Park is hard to pass. I thought I could maybe snag a few positions on the opening lap and scrape into the top ten but definitely wasn’t expecting to finish 7th. This year’s series was definitely the toughest it’s been, last year was still pretty tough but this year was a different level, the speed of everyone in the field was crazy, it was so close. I’d say tonight was definitely the highlight, not the qualifying part, but the race was great being my best result of the series.”
Jobe will return to the track in real life for Toyota 86 season finale at Mt Panorama, October 6 – 9.
