Erebus Academy’s Jobe Stewart has secured the round win in Newcastle after taking P2 in the final race for Super3.
Teammate Jay Hanson also stood on the podium in Super2, after taking P4 in Sunday’s race.
Unfortunately, it was a tough day for Erebus’ own Jack Perkins after an unavoidable collision saw the #70 driver finish his Newcastle campaign with a DNF.
As the lights went out for Race 2, Jack and Jobe were both up two spots with the pair now sitting P6 and P17 respectively. Jay was also quick off the line and moved up one position to P5 by the end of the opening lap.
The Erebus trio maintained their opening lap gains until lap 6 when a six car pile up at turn 8 resulted in a safety car that would lead the field until the checkered flag.
Ryan Wood was the first to hit the wall and as he bounced off, Jack was forced into the back of him and with nowhere to go, sustained major damage to the front left hand side of his Commodore, resulting in his retirement.
Meanwhile, as a result of the pile up, Jay crept up a spot to P4, while Jobe was up ten positions to P9 where they remained until the race was declared.
Scoring P2 amongst the Super3 category, Jobe was two for two in Newcastle and was awarded round winner for the category.
Similarly, as a result of Jay’s two top five finishes, the Super2 driver walked away with third overall for the weekend.
The Erebus trio will return to the track for the Perth SuperSprint next month, April 28-30.
