Coca-Cola Racing by Erebus have hit the ground running at the Australian Grand Prix, securing their first ever double-podium in today’s opener.
It was an exhilarating 19-lapper around Albert Park with Brodie Kostecki scoring 2nd, ahead of his teammate Will Brown in P3.
At the start, isolated spots of rain started to fall on the formation lap though Brodie and Will got away well from P2 and P6 on the grid.
By the end of the opening lap Brodie was 3rd and Will 7th. Though Will showed plenty of pace and moved through the field.
Will got back past Jack Le Brocq on lap 3, before jumping another spot to 5th on lap 5. It was then that Chaz Mostert found himself in an Erebus sandwich, with Brodie in front in P3 and Will all over his rear bumper, now in P5 .
Will ran his super-soft tyres right until the end of lap 16. With the race declared wet the team were quick to think and pivoted their strategy; Will stopping for two rear super-softs for the final two laps home. Brodie did the same moments later for one final lap to the checkered flag.
It proved the key for the team’s success, with Will jumping out of almost nowhere into 3rd, just behind Brodie on the rejoin.
Not only is it a historic moment for Erebus, it marks Brodie’s 7th Supercars podium, and Will’s 5th.
With a good car underneath them, Will and Brodie both head into tomorrow full of confidence for tomorrow’s sole race where they start P2 and P4 respectively.
