Coca-Cola Racing by Erebus’ Brodie Kostecki continued his quick streak on the streets of Newcastle today, quickest in qualifying and the Shootout, though had a podium slip away at the end.
Teammate Will Brown wheeled his Camaro from 11th on the grid all the way up to 6th, just behind Brodie in 5th.
As Brodie entered the history books, he got a great start and beat Cam Waters to the first corner to hold onto the lead.
Meanwhile, Will was able to maintain his position through the first stint, all the way until he stopped early at the end of lap 20 for tyres and fuel.
Extending his lead out to 1.5 seconds, Brodie held off pitting until lap 30. With a longer stop and extra fuel on board, Brodie re-entered the field just behind Cam Waters in P2.
Both Coca-Cola Camaros were pushed to their limits in the middle stint and when the final stops were complete with 36 laps to go.
Brodie, now P4, was getting chased by Chaz Mostert on fresher tyres. With 15 laps to go the #25 driver snuck past Brodie, with Brodie and Will now P5 and P6 respectively.
It is where they passed the checkered flag, making it the first time the team had two cars finish inside the top six in Newcastle.
Sunday’s action commences with Qualifying at 11:15am local time, followed by the Top Ten Shootout and final race of the weekend.
