Erebus Academy’s Jobe Stewart has extended his Super3 Championship lead and secured his third victory on the final lap at Sandown this afternoon.
Meanwhile, Super2 drivers Jay Hanson and Jack Perkins both made gains throughout Race 1 to secure top 10 finishes in P8 and P10 respectively.
The Image Racing duo both got great starts with Jay shooting off the line to gain four positions and claim P8, while Jobe held onto P2 but closed the gap from four cars between him and Cameron McLeod to two cars.
Unfortunately, Jack, who started P12, didn’t quite get the jump which resulted in him being boxed in amongst the chaos of the mid field and dropping to P14.
Throughout the race, Jack was pushing his way through the field and by lap 18, had passed Nash Morris who had ran wide, to sit P11.
Lap 15 saw Jay claim P6 after Love was ousted into the gravel, though the gain was short lived when a big lock up resulted in him running off at Dandenong Road and losing two positions in the process.
By the final lap, there were six cars separating Jobe in P2 and McLeod in P1 but with less than 20 seconds to go, McLeod had an engine drama that resulted in a DNF, allowing Jobe to slide by to claim victory.
As the chequered flag was waved, Jay crossed the line three positions higher than he started in P8, followed by Jack two positions higher in P10.
Jobe’s win has seen him extend his Super3 Championship lead to 126 points, while Jay has gained a position to sit fifth in the Super2 standings.
Tomorrow’s qualifying session commences at 9:15AM, followed by Race 2 at 12:50PM AEST.
