Erebus Academy drivers Jarrod Hughes and Jobe Stewart have kicked off their 2024 Dunlop Super2 campaign, claiming 5th and 19th respectively in today’s opening race.
After a strong qualifying Jobe secured 5th place on the grid, closely followed by Jarrod in 7th.
Jobe stalled on the grid and found himself pushed back in the field, but an early safety car provided the chance to bunch up with the rest of the pack, ready to make ground as soon as the green flag dropped.
Meanwhile Jarrod started strong, narrowly avoiding Jobe’s car and maintaining his new 6th position nicely before the initial safety car came out.
Both drivers worked hard under the first safety car to maintain tyre temperature, both making up places when racing got back underway.
The second safety car was brought out by Cooper Murray after he crashed at the top of the mountain, with Jobe sitting in 19th and Jarrod in 5th.
The second restart resulted in a multi car pile-up at the Cutting early on, resulting in the race ultimately being red flagged.
The red flag lasted until the clock wound down to zero, with both Jobe and Jarrod finishing their first race of the season sitting in pit lane.
