One final race for the Melbourne SuperSprint on Sunday AM at the Australian F1 Grand Prix, and unfortunately not the end to the weekend we were hoping for.
Qualifying for Race 6 saw us fall slightly short, resulting in grid positions of P10 for Jack and P19 for Todd. The guys were well aware this would put them further down the field and in the danger zone while trying to navigate Albert Park’s concrete jungle.
Unfortunately it wasn’t long after the lights went green that Jack was being love tapped by Randle. Coming into 12 and 13 on the very first lap, further contact saw Jack dive straight into the lane where the team attempted repair, before diagnosing a blown steering rack which saw #9 forced to retire from the race.
Back on track Todd had gained several spots before being spun by Courtney on lap 10. He rejoined, Courtney receiving a 5 second penalty, but the #99 car continued to blow smoke in the dying laps of the race. What initially looked to be a rubbing tyre from damage to the rear was identified as being an oil leak, from damage caused when he was pushed from the track.
Next up we head to New Zealand and we’re eagerly anticipating carrying forward the momentum we’ve built throughout this weekend!
