Erebus Motorsport are set for Sunday’s finale, after another strong performance on the streets of Townsville today.
Qualifying started the day, and it was Reynolds who was fastest of the two Erebus Commodores.
Producing his quickest lap early in the 20-minute session, the #9 driver was set for eighth spot on the grid.
Getting a jump off the start, Reynolds swiftly moved up to sixth before the end of the first lap.
Slotting in front of Shane van Gisbergen, the race was set to be a battle between the two.
It was in the final stages when Van Gisbergen dropped a cylinder, where Reynolds put a move on him for sixth spot.
It was a bump-pass and Reynolds redressed, allowing Van Gisbergen and Lowndes through.
Reynolds then fell behind Tander on the final lap to ultimately pass the checkered flag in ninth.
Starting from 20th, a dramatic start to Race 13 saw Wood weave through and climb five spots before turn two.
In a race that produced no Safety Cars, it was all about tyre management. Wood made his first stop on lap 17, before pitting again at the end of lap 43.
The #99 stalked the back of Caruso up until the last lap, but was unable to make a move stick and finished the 70-laps in 15th.
Qualifying will be held tomorrow at 10:55am local time, ahead of a Top Ten Shootout and a second 200-kilometre race.
David Reynolds – #9 Erebus Penrite Racing
“I qualified okay, we ended up eighth which was really good but if I got the perfect lap I should have been fifth so I am still a little disappointed.
“I got a good start in the race, I was sixth by the end of the first lap and going pretty good, managing my tyres well. I was sitting around there until the last few laps where I caught car #97. Unfortunately, I went to make a move and drilled him under brakes. I got a spot out of it but did the right thing and redressed. I ended up ninth which was disappointing but tomorrow is another day!”
Dale Wood – #99 Erebus GB Galvanizing Racing
“There are a lot of positives to take out of my day, the car is really good at the moment and certainly going in the right direction.
“It wasn’t too crazy of a race, it wasn’t as hot as we anticipated so I am feeling fresh and ready for tomorrow.
“I was able to finish the race in a decent position, but I’m hearing whispers of a penalty for spinning wheels in a pit stop, so unfortunately that’s disappointing. I think we’ve got a good car for tomorrow and confident we can put it reasonably well up there.”
