Erebus Motorsport has made a special trip to New South Wales ahead of this weekend’s Bathurst 1000.

In a collaborative effort with Westar Truck Centre, the team assisted drought-stricken farmers through the donation and transport of a trailer of hay to one of the state’s worst affected drought areas.

The team’s truck driver Tim Jennings, and their MAN TGX D38 completed the run over the weekend, with forty square bales of hay on board.

“Everyone knows the tough conditions that Australian farmers are faced with due to the ongoing drought,” Heavy Truck Sales Manager Joel Saunders said.

“This donation was just Erebus, Penske and ourselves showing our support for farmers and playing a small part in helping to ease the suffering that farmer’s livestock are faced with.

“Agriculture in all its forms is a crucial part of the Australian economy and food requirements of the nation.  Wherever possible the transport community is doing what they can to support this essential industry is these tough times.”

The relief effort was supported by a number of companies with a total of eight trailer loads of hay collected from Jerilderie on Friday and delivered to the Trangie, Nevertire and Warren areas, about 1.5 hours North West of Dubbo.

It’s not a first for Erebus though, with the team raising funds for charity Buy a Bale at their open day last month, also helping Australian farmers.

“I think it was Sydney where I decided to print out a heap of signs and put them around the pits to try and raise awareness,” Team Owner Betty Klimenko said.

“I own a property in rural New South Wales so I can see the problems our farmers are having.

“It’s something I’ve been aware of but it’s only recently that it’s been brought to the public’s attention of how bad it really is.

“It’s fantastic to be able to help in any way we can, our farmers are the back bone of our country.”

Erebus’ prime mover is back in action today as it heads off to Mount Panorama for this weekend’s Bathurst 1000.
