With a collection of new parts and a long job list at today’s official pre-season test, Penrite Racing’s David Reynolds and Anton De Pasquale set the pace before packing up early.

It wasn’t all about the fresh new livery, there were several changes under the skin that needed testing, with the roll out of new control items and technical regulations.

Those included a new Xtrac transaxle gearbox, revamped Motec Electronic Control Unit and the requirement to only run linear-spring dampers.

“Today was a good start to the season; we rolled out and had reasonable balance straight out the gate,” Reynolds said.

“Teams have to find different ways to achieve their speed because of the new rules, although it’s not a big deal for us as our cars run mostly linear anyway.”

Reynolds was the only driver to break the 1:31 bracket, posting a 1:30.9532 in the first 90-minutes.

Teammate Anton De Pasquale powered through 49 laps to secure the third fastest time, a 1:31.0334.

“Both cars rolled out fast and we ticked off the bulk of our testing program, and now we are heading home,” the #99 driver said.

The team has now left the circuit early, two hours ahead of schedule, with their Holden’s deemed too loud.

“Our exhaust system is the same we have run here previously so we can’t understand why today it is too loud,” team’s CEO Barry Ryan said.

“We’re not stressed, we have ticked off the things we needed to and we still walk away positive after today.

“The track was at its best this morning, so nobody is making any real gains, hopefully by the end of the day we are still on top.”

Luke Youlden managed a number of laps before packing up, while Will Brown didn’t get his run in.

“I got a good number of fast laps, and it feels good to get back in and get out of GT mode; it’s always cool to get in the car for the first time each year,” he said.

The team now prepare for the season opener in Adelaide, 28 February – 3 March.
