After the crew worked to change an engine and gearbox on Car 1 overnight, Brodie came out of the blocks with a point to prove, clocking a 1:05.8971 for P2 in Qualifying. Jack likewise was on the pace, ending the session P7 to rocket both cars into the Shootout.
Come TTSO time, Brodie continued the momentum, landing the team’s first front row start of the season while Jack put the Tyrepower rocket into P5.
Race start saw the cars held on the grid for a long time, with Brodie just missing the start and slotting into P3 behind the two Red Bulls. Jack made a place and settled in behind to P4.
Percat launched Heimgartner into the Wildcard entry of Cooper Murray, triggering a Safety Car, but when the race resumed Brodie and Jack held position until Jack pitted – rejoining in 17th. Brodie followed suit on lap 24, rejoining in 11th. By lap 28, Brodie was back into 7th, while Jack had regained 10th. At lap 33, Brodie had moved back up to P3 and Jack to 6th and from here they would hold position until the flag fall.
All in all a fantastic Sunday for the team, and one we hope will build momentum heading into the second half of the season with Townsville the next stop on the calendar in three weeks’ time.
