Erebus Motorsport has stepped back in time, unveiling their 1960’s inspired design for this weekend’s ‘Retro Round’, the Wilson Security Sandown 500.
Replacing the modern black and gold, David Reynolds and Craig Baird will sport a one-off design built around Penrite’s branding from the late 1950’s through to early 1980’s.
The duo will also carry the #90 on their Penrite Oil Commodore this weekend – as the Australian owned and made company celebrate their 90th anniversary.
“This retro livery is to celebrate Penrite’s 90 years of oil manufacturing in Australia,” Penrite Oil’s General Manager – Sales & Marketing, Toby Dymond, said.
John and Margaret Dymond bought the company in 1979 and together with their nine children, Penrite Oil has grown to be a successful family owned and operated business.
“My dad was very passionate about oil and lubricant technology, he made it his life’s work to set about developing new industry leading standards,” he said.
“He always pushed us all to find better ways to do things; growing up and working in the automotive trade he learnt how things worked and always wanted them to perform at their best.
“We have grown significantly but still have not lost sight of our original goals, and that is to make the best possible quality product and right oil for any application.”
Today, Penrite continues to be 100% Australian owned and managed, with manufacturing facilities in Victoria and Queensland.
David Reynolds is also excited to be able to take a look back through Penrite’s history this weekend.
“They have been around for a long time and it’s really cool to be able to celebrate their milestone with a one-off livery,” he said.
This weekend marks the 47th time Sandown Raceway has hosted the Australian Touring Cars/Supercars, and to celebrate teams are bringing back the 60s, 70s and 80s.
“I’m certain I was born in the wrong era, as this era would definitely be my favourite,” Reynolds said.
“I’m looking forward to sharing the car with Bairdo, we have been friends for a long time and he has also acted as a mentor to me. I’m excited about the whole weekend.”
This weekend’s events also kick starts the Pirtek Enduro Cup, with cars on track for practice Friday at 11:00am AEST.
