Erebus Motorsport’s David Reynolds and Aaren Russell sampled a different form of motor sport in the lead up to the Perth SuperSprint driving a speedway Sprintcar at the Perth Motorplex in Kwinana Beach.

In football terms it could be considered the equivalent of switching codes with the two disciplines requiring very different skills to achieve speed. Both drivers adapted quickly enjoying laps behind the wheel of Speedway Legend cars and 410 cubic inch Sprint Cars.

David Reynold’s described the differences between speedway and circuit racing.

“To drive the Sprint Car requires a totally different mindset. Everything we’ve learnt about slowing the car down before a corner on a circuit has to be thrown out the window. The wing on the Sprint Car just pushes the car into the dirt and allows you to drive hard all the way around the track, the moment you lift the car just want’s to head to the wall, it’s a really odd experience.”

Reynolds and Russell were attending the private event thanks to Plus Fitness and Performance Racegear who sponsor Erebus Motorsport and the Perth Motorplex venue.

After sampling the Sprint Cars both drivers were taken for laps in 2 seater variants, Aaren Russell was blown away by the full capability of the cars.

“It was awesome fun to switch from tarmac to dirt. I have so much respect for the guys & girls who race these cars. The sheer speed and force through the corners was amazing and being a passenger at full tilt literally blew my mind. I hope to do it again one day.”
