Engineering progress by the Erebus Motorsport team is starting to show promise as David Reynolds set the 5th fastest lap time in Race 10 at Winton Motor Raceway. Renolds matched the leaders pace for a majority of the race as he and the team were left to rue a damaged wheel nut which cost precious time in the pits for the Erebus Penrite Holden.

Reynolds was pleased by the pace but left frustrated with the race results. “The good side of today was the cars race pace, we were able to make up spots right from the start and the tyre life was good. It just shows how close this sport is that we ended up where we did after the issue with the wheel nut.”

While coming to grips with his own result Reynolds gave praise to race winner Tim Slade. “I’m so happy for him (Tim Slade) taking his first win. He’s worked so hard and really deserved it today.”

Aaren Russell also found race pace in the Plus Fitness Holden, running 4 tenths of a second quicker than qualifying and setting the 10th quickest lap time of the race. “It’s the first time I’ve come out of a race happy with the pace and unhappy with my driving. I made a few little mistakes that cost us track position. The direction we took for the race was a huge step up from qualifying so I just need to keep my head screwed on tight and not get too excited and I feel like we can really push forward tomorrow.”

The team are back at Winton today for Qualifying at 11:35am followed by Race 11 of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship at 1:45pm.
