David Reynolds produced a gutsy drive through the field in Race 11 of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship at Winton Motor Raceway to take 6th overall. Starting 17th, the Erebus Penrite Holden was instantly on the pace setting the fastest time of the race on Lap 8. Reynolds went faster again on lap 33 of 60 setting the quickest time of the entire race. Reynolds made his final pass on the second last corner of the final lap, pressuring Pye in to a mistake to take a positive 6th.

Reynolds was extremely pleased with the result and what it meant for the team. “Today we got the reward for a lot of hard work that no one sees. A big thanks to everyone at Erebus Motorsport V8 for the hard work engineering the cars back at the workshop. This is what we have been working towards, now we just have to find it consistently”

On the other side of the garage it was the reverse emotions for Plus Fitness Racings Aaren Russell. “We struggled a little bit with the start but we were very competitive with the pack, to be honest the cars in front were probably holding me up a little. The first pit stop was good and I came out just trying to look after the tyres and get an undercut on the guys around me. Blanchard came out from the pits and I was already committed to Turn 1 on his outside. I thought we were both going to get through turn 2 side by side and he must not of seen me and turned in. The contact pushed the splitter on the tyre and it went down just before pit entry and that was our day done. Unfortunately we also probably cost Dave a few spots with the car in the boom as the safety car came out which is never ideal.”

Erebus Motorsport will race next at Darwin’s Hidden Valley Raceway on June 17-19.
