Erebus Motorsport Image Racing’s Will Brown has started the 2020 Dunlop Super 2 season with a podium, finishing third in race one at the Superloop Adelaide 500 today.

Starting from fourth place on the grid Brown jumped from the blocks quickly snagging second place passing Brodie Kostecki and Zak Best on the first corner but he couldn’t catch a flying Thomas Randle. A problem with the downshift on Brown’s Commodore saw Kostecki and Brown begin a battle of the Penrite Racing co-drivers which saw the former reign Brown in and pass him on lap 3.

After passing Brown, Kostecki was relentless in pursuit of Randle, finally catching him on Lap 17 of the 19 lap race. The end result was Kostecki, Randle and Brown in the Top 3 with two races still to be run on Saturday and Sunday.

Overall, Brown was happy with the result but said there is work to be done to catch the front runners.

“It was a really good first race and if that’s the worst we do this weekend then we’ll be happy, but we just weren’t right with the overall set up,” Brown said.

“I feel like we went well except for the downshift. We got start going to second straight away, but it wasn’t downshifting properly and that’s where we were having the problem when Brodie was behind us.  Brodie just had a lot more pace than us and so did Thomas, so it was best to let those two go and sit in our own air and not do anything silly.

“We have a bit of work to do overnight but we’ll pull it apart and come back and have a crack tomorrow.”

Race two of the Adelaide 500 Super 2 Series, which uses a progressive grid format, starts tomorrow at 2:05pm local time.
