Erebus Academy recruit Bailey Sweeny has not let anything stand in his way this season, amid an interrupted season due to COVID-19.

Bailey debuted in the Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia 86 series at Bathurst in October but has since been keeping himself busy in other ways on track.

Here’s a look at what he’s been up to…

SP Tools Australian Kart Championship

Bailey claimed his maiden Australian titles race win at round two of the 2020 SP Tools Australian Kart Championship.

He broke through for his first national race win in the KA3 Senior Class, taking victory in heats one and two. In the remaining two races Bailey again shone, claiming second place in both races. With a strong haul of 51 points now taken by Bailey from Newcastle, he sits 7th overall in the Australian Karting Championship.

Excel Series X3 Race Series

Next on the list was the Hyundai Excel Series X3 Race series Enduro race at Wakefield Park. Bailey produced a stunning result with second place after a top three qualifying result.

The teen from Bateman’s Bay commented: “it was a great to be back out on track in an interrupted year, mixing it with a one-make series where it all comes down to the driver. I’d like to extend a special thanks to the team at Crossland Motorsport who gave me a great car too.”

Canberra Cup Karting Titles

The 17-year-old then dominated the Watts Communications Canberra Cup karting titles at the Circuit Mark Webber in the Senior Performance Class – coming away with heat wins, as well as the pre-final win and the overall championship final win.

Bailey now looks to the 2021 Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia 86 series where he will race as part of the Erebus Academy.
