Erebus Motorsport’s Will Brown and Brodie Kostecki have learnt a big lesson at today’s Sandown SuperSprint, after finishing P16 and P17 respectively in Race 3.

Both Erebus drivers made their way right through the three-part qualifying session into the third 10-minute segment, guaranteeing them both a top-ten start.

Starting side-by-side on the fifth row, Will got a brilliant start and passed his teammate before the opening corner. Brodie on the other hand didn’t get through the first few corners unscathed as cars went four-wide.

The Erebus Boost driver got stuck up the outside and was fed a wheel by Nick Percat, sending the #99 off onto the dirt. It was a domino effect from there, as others tried to make the most of the moment and get past Brodie.

Brodie raced on although it was only short with the Safety Car called on lap two when Bryce Fullwood found the fence at turn four. It affected five laps until racing resumed.

Brodie took his pit stop at the end of lap seven for two right-hand-side tyres only, while Will stopped just one lap later for the same treatment.

Re-joining the field in P20 and P22, it wasn’t until the entire field had taken their stops that their true standings would be shown.

Both young drivers raced hard until the end, though with inexperience on the soft tyres, they chewed up their rubber before the finish line. Ultimately, Will and Brodie finished in tow in P16 and P17.

Both Erebus young guns are looking forward to capitalizing on their quick qualifying pace tomorrow when they’re given another two cracks.

Back-to-back qualifying starts at 10:30am local time, followed by two races in the afternoon.
