Erebus Motorsport will celebrate a major milestone in today’s first race at Winton, chalking up 300 Supercars Championship race starts.

Erebus made its Championship debut in 2013 after team owner Betty Klimenko purchased Stone Brothers Racing and launched a high-profile Mercedes-AMG program.

Under the leadership of Barry Ryan, the team switched to Holden Commodores in 2016 and moved from the Gold Coast to Melbourne.

“300 is a great achievement,” Klimenko said

“I remember saying when we started, at 300 I would think about retirement because it seemed so far away, but it has come so quickly.

“I’ve seen drivers and crew come and go and people’s lives change in that time.

“I am so happy where our team is and what we have achieved in this time.”

For Klimenko, celebrating at Winton carries personal meaning.

The team recorded their first Supercars victory at the Benalla circuit in 2014, registering the first touring car win for Mercedes-Benz in history.

“Winton holds a special place for me,” she said.

“It’s ironic that we celebrate 300 races at the same place I received my first team’s trophy.

“It means a lot, I will always remember that day so well.”

Erebus has gone to soaring heights since, scoring a total of 8 race wins, including Bathurst in 2017, plus 9 pole positions and 34 podiums.

“I feel like I have earned my place,” Klimenko said.

“I have achieved my bucket list item of winning Bathurst, and we’ve had so many incredible moments.

“I am so proud of the people around me, who have really been on this journey with me.

“We have a wonderful group of people and that’s why we will go onto the next 300.

“Also to the fans, they are on this wild ride with us, and we couldn’t do it without their passion and support.”

The team’s gratitude goes beyond words, with celebrations continuing later today at a signing session in merchandise alley. Klimenko will be at the team’s merchandise store at 2:05pm with Erebus-branded cupcakes to share with their supporters.

The team hit the track for their 300th race and second of the weekend at 12:25pm local time.

Will Brown and Brodie Kostecki will line up on the grid 8th and 12th respectively.
