Albury-racer Jordan Boys will make his solo Supercars debut in a Winton wildcard with Image Racing and the Erebus Academy this month.

It will be the first of two wildcards, with Boys also eyeing off a start on the grid at Tailem Bend at the end of July.

“My goal has always been to race in the main-game and I am backing myself at the highest level to prove that I am capable,” Boys said.

“I don’t feel I have been able to deliver what I believe I can and I need to do this to take that next step towards a full-time main game drive.

“It’s a brutal sport and every driver wants a seat, but with the right team and car I believe we will be competitive at Winton and I can prove that I can mix it with the best.

“It’s really exciting to do the wildcard alongside Image and Erebus given that I have been associated with them for so long.

“Image Racing is like family to me so it’s great to make this step with Terry, it’s something we’ve spoken about for a long time.

“We’re really excited to have a crack at it and we’re both pretty confident that we can do a good job.”

Boys racked up 3 race wins, 3 podiums and 2 pole positions with Erebus-affiliated Super2 team Image Racing between 2017 and 2021, though his focus this year has been on the wildcard program.

Image Racing’s Terry Wyhoon said: “Image Racing, alongside the Erebus Academy, is designed to provide the best possible opportunity for young drivers with talent to break into the super-competitive Supercars series.

“Jordan has campaigned very successfully over the past few years at Super2 levels and has had some success as a co-driver.

“Following some serious discussion with Jordan and Barry Ryan we all agreed that his talent has not really been put on show in a format that represents his exceptional driving ability.

“Hence a decision was made earlier this season that he would focus all his energy on a two-round wildcard campaign and show what he is truly capable of and I think he will surprise quite a few.”

The 24-year-old will campaign a current-spec Erebus Motorsport Commodore, after four seasons in an ex-Erebus VF Holden in Super2.

It won’t be the first time however that Boys will steer one of the team’s ZBs, with Boys jumping behind the wheel at an evaluation day and in the additional driver practice session at Winton back in 2019.

“Jordan is a strong steerer and has done a really good job anytime he has been in one of our cars,” Erebus CEO Barry Ryan said.

“We have supported him at Image Racing for a number of years now and are pleased that we are able to provide Jordan with the opportunity to make his solo debut.

“This is the next step in his racing career and I don’t doubt that he will make the most of the opportunity and we will do anything to help him progress.”

Boys will have his first outing with Erebus and a bulk of Victorian-based Supercars teams at a test day on May 10.

He will then line up alongside the Boost Mobile-backed Erebus Commodores at the Winton SuperSprint, May 21 – 22.

Boys’ long-time supporters Dynamic Supplies, Joss Group and Lubrimaxx will feature heavily on the wildcard, while minor commercial opportunities for both events are still available. For a prospectus contact Image Racing: image.racing@outlook.com.

Boys hopes making a statement at Winton and Tailem Bend will attract the attention of new commercial partners as he looks at what he can achieve in the next 12-months.
