Image Racing’s Jordan Boys has made his solo Supercars debut at his home-track in Winton today.
After qualifying P23 for this weekend’s opening race, Jordan was feeling confident in the speed of the car and was looking to push hard in the race. He got a solid start and briefly moved up to P22 before reverting back to his starting position.
The Albury-local continued running P23 until making his way to pit lane for fresh left-side tyres on lap 15. Unfortunately, a difficult stop saw Jordan re-enter the field P27 where he remained as the rest of the field completed their pitstops.
On lap 20 a pit-lane penalty for Image Racing alumnus Will Brown saw him fall to the back of the pack where he ran behind Jordan. The #49 driver continued to put together clean, fast laps until the checkered flag where he crossed the line P25.
Jordan is now looking ahead to tomorrow’s double-header with qualifying for Race 2 kicking off at 9:40AM AEST.
Jordan Boys said: “It was a really good experience and our pace was really good overall. It was a bit disappointing that we had a bit of a slow pit stop, you can’t give up much track position here and expect to get it back but I’m definitely happy with our pace and there were plenty of positives to take from the day. I felt pretty comfortable amongst the field and the competition was everything I thought it was going to be. I expected everyone to be elbows out, having a big dip and they definitely were. Getting to understand the tyre more today was important and I also hadn’t done a race start since the final race of Super2 so I felt a bit rusty in that first lap but I’ll do a better job of it tomorrow. Will and Brodie showed the car has really, really good pace in qualifying so I think if I can do a better job in qualifying tomorrow that will help set our day up. I don’t think a top 15 is out of reach this weekend and that’s what we’re going to try and do.”
