Erebus Motorsport’s Brodie Kostecki and Will Brown drove hard in the opening race on the streets of Townsville today, securing P13 and P18 respectively.
The duo locked out the seventh row on the grid, starting side-by-side. Brodie got the better start and shot up inside the top ten after the first few complexes while Will was pushed down to P16.
The argy-bargy continued and it was Bryce Fullwood who contacted the Erebus Pedders Racing Commodore and pushed Will back another two places.
Will was the first to blink, pitting for clean air at the end of lap 20. He took on four tyres and fuel before his teammate came into the box two laps later.
The #9 Holden set personal best sectors on the fresh rubber and indicated that the undercut could potentially pay off. Trailing behind Brodie, the pair charged through the Reid Park Street Circuit and built a buffer to those behind them.
Will pit for a second time on lap 50 for fresh boots and a big drink of fuel, before Brodie again followed two laps later.
When the field settled Brodie was exactly where he started in P13, while the undercut didn’t work for Will who ended the day in P18.
The team now prepare for the second day of racing tomorrow, with another qualifying session, Top Ten Shootout and 250-kilometre race.
