Image Racing’s Jordan Boys has produced positive results on the opening day of the OTR SuperSprint, despite being unable to maximise the car’s pace.
Qualifying P17 out of a 27 car grid, Jordan got a good start and managed to maintain his position throughout the pushing and shoving of the opening laps.
With the potential to get the undercut, Jordan entered pit lane as soon as the window opened on lap five for fresh rear tyres. Unfortunately though, a jammed wheel nut during the pit stop saw Jordan lose a significant chunk of time as he rejoined the field at the back of the pack.
By the halfway point, Jordan was sitting P24 and when the field was finally cleansed with four laps to go, he was running P25, where he remained until the checkered flag was waved.
Jordan Boys said: “I’d never raced at The Bend before, I’d only ever done some practice laps here and that was it. I really enjoy the track but it’s definitely way different being so long and flowing, it’s nothing like anything I’ve ever raced on before but it’s been a good experience so far. I was feeling a lot more confident heading into this second wildcard appearance and I’m a lot more comfortable heading into the races. If I can qualify somewhere in the upper mid field tomorrow, I think I can stay there. I’ve struggled to get more time out of the car in qualifying, I haven’t felt like I can really turn on the tyre properly. Unfortunately during the race, I made a few errors and an issue in the pit stop cost us a lot of time but overall I felt pretty good about it. The car speed and everything was great but once we were back in traffic, it was really hard to pass. There were a couple of things that led to us being at the back of the field even though we have a really strong car but I’m keen to get back out there tomorrow and see what we can do.”
Having shown plenty of potential, Jordan is looking ahead to tomorrow’s double-header with qualifying kicking off at 9.35AM ACST.
