Erebus Academy’s Jobe Stewart has turned his front row start into a first place finish on debut in Newcastle.
Meanwhile, Erebus Motorsport’s Jack Perkins also secured a podium with second in the Super2 category, while Academy’s Jay Hanson finished fifth.
As the lights went out, Jack was quick off the line and took the lead of the race straight out of turn one. Meanwhile, Jay and Jobe both secured an additional position and were sitting P5 and P17 by the end of lap 2.
Lap 7 saw Jack come under pressure from Cooper Murray and although he managed to hold him off for a while, Murray was able to sneak past at turn 11 to take the lead.
On the same lap, the first and only safety car of the race was deployed after a three car pile up that saw Jobe just manage to squeeze past safety.
By lap 10, racing had resumed and while Jack and Jay maintained their P2 and P5 positions, Jobe took advantage of the shortened field and jumped two places to P15.
With the race declared on lap 12, Jack finished P2 followed by Jay in P5. Although crossing the line P2, a post-race penalty handed to Cameron McCleod saw Jobe elevated to P1.
Qualifying for Race 2 will commence tomorrow morning with Super3 kicking off at 10.35AM, followed by Super2 at 10.45AM local time.
